On the one hand, seat reservations aren't super expensive, on the other hand, just let a family sit together it won't kill you to have a middle seat for a few hours.

I had flight attendants shift me from my carefully planned window seat in the sun to an exit row seat on the other side of the plane, but they plied me with booze afterwards so fair enough.
