Fun fact: Boston PD remain the only police force in US history to walk out on strike. It was in 1919 when they were forced into clean-up detail after 2 million gallons of molasses flooded Boston's north harbor area drowning 21 and injuring 150.
During the strike Governor Calvin Coolidge called in the National Guard, refused to negotiate and eventually pressured Boston's mayor into firing striking officers. He subsequently became a darling of anti-union, anti-graft campaigners and was chosen as Warren Harding's VP to offset the massive corruption of the Ohio gang.
