Cryptocels are mad that people can cheat when mining

HIP-107 was recently proposed which would allow Nova Labs (the owner of the Helium network) and any MOBILE service providers (the miner distributors) to deactivate MOBILE (the token) miners if they are suspected of gaming (faking the location of a miner to get boosted rewards).

https://heliumvote.com/mobile/proposals/GAZKv3qymMR1FAcvRw76Hi3YKHUV7WDfbM4uFGqawZoy

The proposed is a double edged sword, this will allow people mining fairly to have increased rewards, but this will also make the network more centralized. The people already don't trust nova labs after they deactivated legit miners for their IOT token.

The proposed needed 67% approval to go through, and alas, it didn't go through. You need to lock the tokens you've earned to vote on these proposals, so that means the people with the most tokens get the most say in the vote, which also means the people getting more token by cheating get the biggest vote. There's probably a lot more drama on the OFFICIAL groomercord where they hold these OFFICIAL discussions, but I totally don't use it, so I'm sticking with the Reddit drama, which isn't as dramatic and dead compared to the groomercord.

The following post is someone stirring up drama by posting a “gaming farm”

This nerd speak is just them arguing over rewards. Commenter said that it'll be impossible to pay off all the miners because of the small ranges OP asserted (claimed where the miner is on the network). OP replied saying that he can actually assert miners really far from where they actually are.

Here's another post, nobody's whining though, they're having a… normal discussion?

To conclude: the helium project is shit and all these crypto projects are slop that could be helpful but are ran by Chinese who back out when they've made enough money

For anyone who hasn't seen the coffeezilla video, this is how helium's first project turned out:

See those tiny yellow bars, just under the purple? That's all the paying customers they had. Cryptocels thought the network was taking off when they were actually just paying each other processing fees.

LoRa is a great :marseynice: technology :marseyunabomberdevil: but sadly helium just wasn't serious :marseybeheadedkamikaze: about it

So it's some crypto that uses your physical location as input when mining? Why? :marseybeanconfused2:

It's supposed to create a wireless mesh network that people can use, or something. So you need the things spread out and not have a bunch covering the same area. I dunno.

Yeah currently they have their own cell network :marseymar: with T-mobile as what's supposed to be a backup, when in reality it's what powers the network :marseyslab: as not enough :marseyitsallsotiresome: people have deployed small :marseytiny1: cells.

The miner is a wifi antenna, you get paid (in crypto) for running a hotspot. That was the original idea. I think this one might be a voip phone, the same company tried a few ideas

Tbh on the surface croudsourcing mobile hotspot coverage with a built in incentive system but doesn't sound like a terrible idea. It's at least got more utility than most crypto projects.

Which is why I originally invested into it, but I sold everything when I started to realize it was another chink :marseyrabbitnewyear4: money :marseygolden2: laundering scheme :marseymischevious: that didn't actually :marseynerd3: care about the whole project.
