i watched "serial experiments lain" last saturday. i liked it, i think i would need to rewatch it to fully appreciate it but i'm not going to, i'm happy with some explanations i've read.

Have you seen Texhnolyze and/or Haibane Renmei? Alongside Lain they're commonly dubbed the ABe Trilogy by fans (even though he only wrote the script for Haibane, he did the character designs and was involved for all three).
Some say they're all pretentious but I disagree. Imo: Texh > Haibane Renmei > Lain.
