I think all the big telecom companies were afraid of being the first to do all that shit "package" internet people said would be enabled by it. If they made you pay 30$ more to use facebook people would change providers.

I feel like I remember hearing Netflix and Hulu and shit being packaged with your phone provider being one of the only tangible parts of net neutrality

Was that sort of thing ever realistic, though? I thought the risk was on the other end, ie an ISP that charges Netflix an extra fee otherwise they slow down Netflix traffic. Or they just have data caps (they already have those) except they'll exclude Netflix usage from the cap, if Netflix pays a fee.

as long as any part of the internet's infrastructure is vulnerable to external pressure that makes them pick and choose who they serve, it won't matter. i doubt net neutrality would touch a service like cloudflare going "actually we're not going to protect this site against DDoSing :marsey57: " so there's no point
