Originally the only mayos who went to Japan were A) Massive Weebs with a basic understanding of Japanese culture or B) Japanophiles with a passable understanding of Japanese culture and was so cost-prohibitive that it priced out the worst of lower-class.

With anime becoming so mainstream and the Jap economy in the gutter, lower-class people who don't even have a basic understanding of Japanese culture who also don't hold Japan up on a pedestal so they chimp out like the nanban gaijin they are with no respect for the culture.
