I've had Skyrim since launch and literally started a new playthrough last year. Same with several other titles such as AC Odyssey, and Fallout 4. The fact that so many people care about the datestamp of the release is such an odd concept to me. The replayability of offline, single-player games is not going anywhere, regardless of how profit-hungry the industry Executives are (1)

The problem is that execs hold power, and can use their perception of the issue to possibly prevent new SP games from getting funded, or to simply get cancelled. This is what happened to Star Wars 1313 for example. (1)

It's so much effort playing multiplayer games. You have to play a lot to not suck, people are always yelling at you if you don't do the best proven strategy, you get your butt kicked by annoying kids with no responsibilities, and you can't just enjoy shit. I've seen people say they โ€œenjoyโ€ multiplayer games but they are mad and hitting their controller and yelling half the time.

A math problem is a challenge, learning a difficult piece for an instrument is a challenge, hitting a new pr is a challenge. Playing video games for all your waking hours, screaming, and generally being a cute twink is not a challenge. A challenge rewards you when you complete it, nobody has ever been rewarded after their 6 hour league of legends session.
