I have some job-hunting questions for any codecel willing to answer

Got a thing where I'd have to relocate for rto nonsense at my current job in a couple months (85k for frontend software dev at a big consulting place) and I've got a couple years of experience from this job now so I'm evaluating my options.

How fricked is the market? I saw a lot of doom and gloom on /g/ and reddit when I was poking around but I haven't heard back yet from any of the apps I sent out last week to start getting my own read on things except the expected "frick off r-slur" responses from STRAGMAN .

How important are stats and numbers about my work in the resume? I see it emphasized on the SEO optimized spam resume advice sites. Not sure how seriously I should take this.

How important are side projects? They were half my resume coming out of college because I had frick all for experience but I don't have anything I'd feel comfortable showing off to someone right now.

Unrelated, but why is Netflix always included in this list of β€œupper echelon” software companies, especially since there are like 10 other movie/tv streaming services now. Like, compare them to Amazon that now does that on top of online shopping, AWS, music streaming, etc.

They're a large tech company that prizes innovation with high standards for hiring, and a loose org structure as I understand it as well as the only one of those streaming places actually turning a profit I'm pretty sure. Not sure beyond that. The STRAGMAN acronym stuck with me so it's what I use online.

What should I learn to branch into that other than sql stuff? The longer I work in the front end hellscape the more I hate it and everyone responsible for it.

I'm not a codecel but I'm adjacent to the tech industry. Are you looking for remote-only jobs? If so you'll be more fricked than a hybrid or in person role.

Pimp your linkedin and then the recruiters will come to you.

Are you looking for remote-only jobs?

No, I'm looking for another right now because 85k post all the inflation the last few years is chickenfeed. Wouldn't actually mind in person. I miss talking to people face to face instead of getting ghosted when I need info or a PR approval to close a jira.

Any tips for Linkedin pimping? I filled it out but don't really use it much beyond the job searching function. Not sure I have time to wait for them to come to me either, pretty sure they will just cut me if I don't show up in person in a couple months barring whatever excuses I throw in.

You can try looking up people in HR roles for companies you're interested in and sliding into their DMs. Possibly even CEO/CTOs for smaller startups

Check out angel list and target small startups that seem like they have a product worth paying for.

Doing the skill assessments on angel list can put you in a position where they'll promote you

Angel list turned into a purely investment thing :marseyshrug:

Looks like the jobs part is on "wellfound" and I only know because they won't stop sending me emails :marseymad:

Bahahhaha. This is totally individualized. First of all. And people don't change, second of all. You should never ever ever get online and preach again. You don't understand reality at all.
