The first one. And sometimes the second one. I took a Black-American women's literature class in college and fully expected white people to be cast as the villains. But white people didn't even come up much, supprisingly enough. But gott darn did all those black female authors hate black men.

The lack of talking about white people actually made it easier to focus on the literature as written rather than having to be defensive. Kinda neat. Overall: the easiest class I ever took. It only existed to pad out the profs list of acolades for whenever she writes a book, I'm sure.
