Friday night drunk thread

Went to a local lake for paddle boarding with my ex-husband that decided surprising me would be fun this morning and then fly home a few hours ago. Lake was cold as shit so kind of funny watching him fall over multiple times and going back to my house for drinks and s*x. Got too drunk so he had to Uber but at least I got a fun morning trip and got laid :marseyshrug: :marseydrunk: :marseydrunk:

Considering the occasion of the PGA Championship being held in a Louisville golf course called Valhalla…I decided to go and entertain my inner bartender by making myself a mead julep

(Which is essentially a mint julep, but subbing the simple syrup with honey)

Sadly, due to my temporary NEET status, I couldn't make it all that nice, so some substitutions had to be made...

This isn't regular honey, but rather one of those fancy honeys you can get at a farmer's market; this one is "ghost-pepper infused", which made it a bit spicy. Sadly, it was relatively crystallized when it used it, so I don't think the flavor really popped through. Still nice tho! Anyway, I mixed that (and a bit of agave syrup to make it more runny) with some mint leaves from the plants in our house garden; for the record, we do have a muddler (my pops uses it a lot for cachaça and caipirinha), but I couldn't find it, so again, had to improvise with a spoon

Yeah, it's Jim Bean. And it's already pre-infused with honey. Yes, the bourbon snobs will get disgusted and call this a poor attempt at cocktail innovation (a notation I 100% agree with)...but hey, it was a relatively lot of liquor for relatively cheap, and it got that honey flavor I'm aiming for, so why not?

I used the whole bottle, which may have been a shot's worth or two. Doesn't seem like much, but as any good bourbon enjoyer knows, you are supposed to use a shitton of crushed ice to finish the product...

I used two sprigs of mint; the one with big leaves was used for the muddle, and the one that's smaller is now my garnish

Overall, I'd (personally) say it's a solid 6 or 7, at least for a first attempt where the ingredients are eyeballed. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the mint flavor wasn't really all that pronounced - but thankfully, I had a bottle of peppermint oil on me, so a few drops did the trick! Maybe a bit too good, cause the mintiness got a bit too strong near the end lol.

Still...it's darn refreshing! The mix of herbal menthol, spicy bee spit, and of course, the kick of Kentucky whiskey makes this mix quite a delight - especially since I made it my self! :marseyretardcheers:

That reminds me, I didn't make my once a year mint juleps for the Kentucky Derby recently, totally missed it. :marseytabletired: Muddle the mint up good with some bourbon and sugar and the drink is poppin'.

I definitely needed more mint overall, and definitely more of a smashed product too...

Maybe I got a bit too paranoid with the whole "overmuddling the herbs will make the entire thing more bitter" idea and held myself back... :marseysigh:

But hey, trial and error! :marseyscientist: After all, the original cocktail makers didn't just magically get the proportions right the first times...

I'm only disgusted by the bottle size. What is that? A bottle for kids? :marseywhirlyhat:
