This survey reports that 17.7m people smoke weed near daily and 14.7m people drink near daily.

The alcohol one is almost definitely too low. Studies have consistently shown that approx. 13% have at least one drink most days. That's 30m people, and that's only including drinking age.

Daily weed smoking numbers are probably too high, but not nearly as unbelievable as the drinking numbers.

This being uncritically reported by the AP speaks volumes too the state of “journ*lism”.

Yeah I suspect that drinkers are more ashamed than potheads and aren't being honest.

The inverse of this logic might apply too the pot numbers. Marijuana is kind of a political signaling topic, leading too the erroneous polling we've seen since 2016 (libs hate when Nate Silver brings this up).

I'd imagine that some people also exaggerate usage as some postmodern act of rebellion (which is ridiculous, @shareblue_shill knows). Even in an anon/confidental survey.

A lot of millennials and older still still think weed is cool even though it was only cool because it was illegal.

No DOUBT A SIGNIFICANT % OF THEM SMOKE. BUT NEAR DAILY? THAT OUTDATED SENSE OF REBELLION PROBABLY CONTRIBUTED TOO THOSE QUESTIONABLE NUMBERS.
