they already invented recoilless rifles back in wwII, which basically does that but there is no other projectile the gun is open on the back and propellant is blasted out to balance recoil it will kill friendlies standing near the back of it

Can't they just design a gun that pumps oxygen into the chamber when the trigger is pulled?
Apparently bullets already have their own oxidizer, so it should work. Well, as long as you are anchored anyway.
