Once upon a time I was a first wave gentry.

Gentrification causes the rent to go up because that initial wave does the bare minimum to clean up trash and pay the rent on time. When we got there it was disgusting in the day and scary at night.

Nothing screams whiteness like speaking on behalf of Melanin Americans, as if the lowly POC can't decipher the difference between a lease and a mortgage.
