Ah, well Elon has the financial wherewithal to maybe help some of these people

It's funny how much they see money as a solution to all problems. Convenient that it's a solution where they don't actually do anything.

You could literally offer these people $1mil if they get and stay sober and they won't do it.

Are Redditors capable of making a political statement without somehow blaming Reagan?

I pointed out here before that deinstitutionalization movement started in the 60s by liberal groups and doctor associations, and it happened across the entire west, not just in the 80s in the US but Canada and parts of Europe

Reagan is a fricking god. The greatest president and drama legend at the same time. The seething he generated will persist long after humanity wipes itself off, and--even then--the last remaining pockets of society will still be blaming him for it all.

This is classic Musk in that there's a bit of truth here: when Reagan dumped all the mentally ill folks onto the street in the 80s, yeah, it created a population of homeless people who are not at that point in their lives functional adults who can take care of themselves. That part checks out.

yea bro it's been 30-40 years lol

Disagree with Musk and a lot of dramatards on the universal correlation between drug use and homelessness. This is based on volunteering at homeless shelters. It's common (I'm including alcohol in drugs), but even then it's frequently that they became addicted as a result of homelessness.

I also feel like liberals use β€œhomeless” as some sort of politically correct proxy for poor black people. In urban areas, section 8 housing folks are a much bigger problem but of course they don't say this because of the β€œimplication”.

I always think its funny when the weird lefties argue the reason for this problem is shutting down mental institutions. They would be clamoring for these places to be shut down if we rounded up all the crazy people and threw them in there.
