Who are Irish travellers, and why are they so vehemently hated? : NoStupidQuestions

These postings are certainly an education for me. I'm an American aged 74, and have heard all sorts of allegations directed toward blacks, native Americans, and lately Latinx (wetbacks is the commonly used derogatory name), of course, but never have I heard/read stories such as these for any group. I am gobsmacked by these stories. Ireland wants settlers and is appealing to Americans of Irish descent to return. Even if I qualified, I would not consider it. We would be great victims because we would not accept that the group was a family mafia until we were completely ripped off. I suspect that a group like this, no matter what it is called, would not survive here because those victimized by them would eventually massacre the entire group like their American ancestors massacred native Americans. And, I learned some new words today!

Pikey stories

They used to steal motorbikes and the lead off church roofs in my hometown. The motorbikes were not on the church roofs.

I once dated a very bright and lovely girl who was at a top university, but she'd been infected by hopelessly woke shit and couldn't accept they are criminals, she could only say that it's a beautiful culture. It might have beautiful aspects, for sure, but personally they're outweighed by the wife beating and degenerate shit.

Recently, I was in a pizza express and there was a pikey family sat behind me. Fat children strutting around like they owned the place, ordering alcoholic drinks for their parents(?). They tried to leave without paying. The father kept accusing the manager of racism when he stopped them, as if other races can leave without paying and only pikeys can't. This went on for like 15 minutes. Very loud. The manager was firm but calm and polite the whole time, what a G. He came round and apologised to everyone for the scene afterwards. They'd parked near the entrance for a fast getaway. They had a nice car of some sort, with the license plate clearly on camera, but I doubt anything will happen to them.

I used to live in a slightly different town with a pikey camp, and there they didn't seem to cause any problems locally and kept their camp clean and presentable. However, if any of the important ones died they'd have gigantic funeral processions for literal tens of miles, and all the local pubs would close for the day to avoid dealing with them.

Sometimes gypsies will de-gypsyfy and join the local society, but the gypsy tendencies continue for multiple generations. Stupidity, drugs, disordered family lives, petty crime, benefit scams, and so on. In the cases I'm thinking of, they couldn't clean up for shit, it was disgusting. I don't think they live like that on the camp.
