it seems like every year there's a new shitty survival game that's popular for a month.

Yup, never got why this got so popular. This is Ark for zoomers.

It takes way less micromanaging than Ark.

Ah, I get why it's popular with ADHD zoomers then

>indie game sells 10 million copies and becomes the second most played game on steam

This would've been celebrated if it didn't step on :mariogoatse:'s property, just saying.

it was never worth the chance they might lose and set precedent I guess

You think Nintendo could lose?

Jump in the discussion.

This particular case they would and evidently Nintendo, historically and notoriously one of the most litigious companies in the world, agrees.

I think it was less that Nintendo thought they could lose (if they had a case at all I imagine they could win) moreso they knew there was no case to begin with. Redditors were just upset that their game for toddlers dared have any competition.

Nintendo have good lawyers and likes to abuse the law. But what could they even sue here?

reddit*r keyboard lawyers :soysnootypefast: had 'evidence' speculating the pals were using models ripped from pokemon games

i played 14 hours of palworld haven't played since may 10th.

i'll eventually go back and start a new character. i don't think i stopped playing cause i didn't like it. it's just i can't fricking stop playing project zomboid.

i recently (within the last month or so) got two elder scrolls-like games. tainted grail and dread delusion. i've played a combined 4 hours of them and enjoyed what i played but...again...I CAN'T STOP PLAYING PROJECT ZOMBOID.

today i got a game called hero's adventure. it seems like my kind of game. open world. turn based strategy. apparently there's a ton of grinding which is my favorite thing ever in turn based games (siralim is one of my favorite game series of all time cause the entire point and focus is grinding to watch numbers go up).

and, you guessed it...PROJECT FRICKING ZOMBOID IS ALL I'VE PLAYED.

WHY DO I EVER BOTHER TO BUY GAMES? THE STEAM SUMMER SALE IS STARTING IN A COUPLE DAYS (I THINK?). I'M SURE I'LL BUY MORE GAMES THEN AND NEVER PLAY THEM. :hysterical:

>siralim is one of my favorite game series of all time

Ummmm based alert? :marseykingcrown:

Easily the most underrated game on steam, no "make numbers go up" game comes close, Siralim felt like it was inserted into my brain and directly firing off neurons

i'm such a mark for the series i've bought them all more than once. being able to share saves between platforms is the best.

some combo of phone and switch/vita/steam deck for all 4 games.

each time one comes out i think :quote: well, they've done it. they perfected the game. it can't get better. :quote: then the next one comes out AND IT'S BETTER. i'm currently in that position thinking they can't possibly improve on ultimate. i don't know if there are plans for a 5th or if he's just gonna keep adding stuff to ultimate, but if there's another i'll blindly buy it twice on release day.

the guy who makes them seems like a good dude. when 3 released on switch the pre orders got botched. i don't remember exactly what happened but i think the release date got moved up. some how anyone who pre-ordered was locked in to the original date and weren't able to play for 2+ weeks. he offered everyone effected free keys for the platform of their choice.

Admittedly I only found the series when Ultimate came out and only played that, but a lot like Factorio it consumed my every non-working, non-sleeping moment for about a month

it's not really worth going back to the previous ones once you've played ultimate. it's the same basic game as all the rest just more and better.

the first one seems so empty and bare in comparison. the first one was just a mobile game on release if i remember right. it's like a tech demo compared to ultimate. at the time it was frickin' great, though.

i wish i could find more games like this where the goal is just grind and watch numbers go up with little story.

disgaea hits the grind portion but there's so much story in those games. :uhuh:

basically sims 3 was good from the get go

with sims 4 they cucked the userbase by making the base game shitty and boring and putting fun stuff in packs. to buy all the backs right now costs over $1000

do you like zombies? do you like survival games? do you want the most :quote: realistic :quote: zombie survival game ever? then zomboid is for you!

it's got skills to level up (carpentry and mechanics, for example. level them up and you can build better stuff or work on your car better). it's got an insanely deep settings menu so you can make the game as easy or as hard as you want. the map is fricking huge. there's a seemingly infinite amount of mods to add everything you could ever want from new weapons/clothes to entire towns/cities added to the map. i'm currently playing a mod called :quote: 10 years later :quote: that makes the map seem like it has been 10 years since the apocalypse. like other survival games you gotta eat/drink (which can be turned off in the settings. there's seriously a setting for every mechanic in the game). there's a system of stress or panic or depression that effects your character (worse at combat. tire easily. etc etc).

i guess this isn't much explain the appeal and more describe the game.

the appeal is it's the most realistic and deep zombie survival game EVER MADE with a huge modding community that's fully supported by the devs (to the point the devs have hired mod makers to officially add their mods to the game.) so you can make the game exactly what you want. i've got dozens and dozens of mods running at all times. it's all right through the steam workshop, too. so it's just a single click and the mod is installed.

there's a bajillion zomboid videos on youtube. if yer on the fence it'd be worth clicking a random one and watching a few minutes of random parts to get a feel for the game.

...eh, I got time, might as well sperg out a bit...

I didn't get a chance to play Palworld back when it was the hip and trendy thing to do (ergo, late January-February), since I was pretty dang busy with studies n sports. But even if I wasn't, I didn't know how to play - I certainly didn't have an Xbox One/Series X, and I sure as heck wouldn't be able to run it on my aging laptop. I assumed it was going to be just another game I would have to sit out on...

...until I realized that I had access to Xbox Cloud (thanks to a Christmas gift from my parents), and after browsing for a bit, it turns out that I could indeed play Palworld (even if on-the-cloud)!

...and then after a few hours, I realized that I wasn't really getting much out of it. Well, more specifically, I realized that a lot of the things that I wanted to do (i.e. get weapons, build giant factories, have Pals serve as de facto slaves, carry out a legendary/mythical hunt, etc) was going to take a lot of time and grinding in order to get there. Basically, playing the game was going to require a lot of commitment, which is something I ultimately cannot guarantee for the busy irl schedule I have. :marseysigh:

Even then, I suppose that the game as a whole suffers from trying to follow other trends found in already-popular games. It wants to be Pokemon x Minecraft x Fortnite x Monster Hunter x Breath of the Wild x Horizon, all at once! And as a result, it ends up becoming a thing that is barely above other sorts of open-world-slop. Of course, it has interesting things to make it stand out (weeb/furry appeal, satirical inversion of typical Pokemon shit, a pretty dang intricate battling/building system, etc)...but alas, the "Pokemon with guns" gimmick can only carry you so far... :marseyshrug:

...with that being said, even with my criticisms, I wish to remain fair, and I want to try and explore the game more (I'm still in the starting area lol). And I suppose that a lot of my problems lay in the fact that I am trying to play all of this bigass game on an iPhone (with an attached Backbone controller) - which is more than likely limiting the mileage I can get out of this thing. Therefore, I will try and see how things go when I stream the game via desktop - which won't be as easy as it seems, since this is an Xbox cloud service, so you have to use controllers instead of a keyboard & mouse (even if you are playing via desktop)...

This is unfortune because I will either have to:

A. Shell out money to buy a new/used Xbox One/Series X controller (because I only have an old wireless 360 controller than can't use Bluetooth)

B. Shell out money to buy a 360 controller adapter (for the aforementioned wireless controller)

C. Shell out money for a "Backbone+" subscription (I have to download their app so that I can use the plug-in controller, and apparently you can only use the phone as an external controller with the paid subscription)

D. Shell out money for a "Keyboard & Mouse for Xbox xCloud" chrome extension (which is, granted, a pretty fair deal, since they only ask for a one-time $4 payment

E. Hope that Microsoft rolls out native keyboard/mouse support for Palworld

F. Do some sort of weird tech shit to bypass all of the above

Money is tight with me, and I ultimately am not really prioritizing playing the haha funny pokemon with gun game at the moment...so this all shall remain TBD...

Some people are able to display their intelligence by going on at length on a subject and never actually saying anything. This ability is most common in trades such as politics, public relations, and law. You have impressed me by being able to best them all, while still coming off as an absolute idiot.

Xbox has keyboard for all games now dude it's in the news last month

Jump in the discussion.

Really? :marseyshook:

I heard a few months ago that Microsoft was rolling out native keyboard/mouse support for only a limited selection of games, of which Palword was not one of them, so I didn't really consider it to be helpful in this particular context (it's much welcome for those other games lol)...

...if that is the case, then zamn, my problem's solved! Maybe...it's still in beta, so I would have to test it out later...
