Are you fricking serious right now? Jonestown was the colloquial name for the headquarters of the Peoples Temple, Jim Jones' cult. In November 1978, they all drank a bunch of poisoned Flavor Aid as part of a ritual suicide. Over 900 people died. That's where the phrase "Drink the Kool-Aid" comes from. :marseykoolaid:

Jones had Ryan killed not to "escape justice", but because he was such a control freak that losing even 1% of his "flock" was unthinkable. Some of Ryan's party escaping the shooting may have made things more urgent, but the Flavor Aid was already being prepared before then. Fundamentally, Leo Ryan's assassination was about Jim Jones creating an excuse to do something he'd always intended to do.
