Let's just a bunch of military in Ukraine right next to the russian border and expect Russia to do nothing. This was bound to happen with how aggressive we got in that area. If Russia put military or nukes on the Mexican border we would invade too.

Russia signed an agreement never to invade Ukraine in exchange for Ukrainian nuclear disarmament and we in turn agreed to put boots on the ground defending Ukraine should Russia reneg on it.
We did nothing for Crimea a decade ago and we're still doing nothing now.
Beyond that, who gives a shit what Russia wants? Are we European eunuchs or are we America? Frick them.

The moderators gave shockingly fair questions to both, no softballs for Biden and no gotchas for Trump. They could have gone way harder on both to brutalize them but that isn't the point of a debate and the whole thing was pleasantly surprising. I'd like to believe the current journo tailspin is because they finally realize he really is a mush brain zombie and it's not just memes, but realistically they're just panicking and will right the ship when they receive editorial direction. Just as soon as the editors stop panicking enough to give it. But fingers crossed for continued integrity.

Even if the journos do switch back to banging the drum for Biden, I suspect the damage has already been done. Realistically, it may not switch a lot of voters, but if Biden's performance causes Dems to sit at home instead of voting, it'll probably be enough. The most charitable interpretation of his performance would be to say underwhelming, and in an election with two broadly unpopular candidates, anything that makes the base feel uninspired about voting for the guy is probably a death sentence.
OTOH, there's still several months left. Lots of opportunities for Trump to do something so r-slurred it cancels out.
