stupidpol has a struggle session over how great life actually was in the USSR

https://old.reddit.com/r/stupidpol/comments/r7q3zu/was_anybody_else_taught_that_the_ussr_was_a?sort=controversial

Which is ironic as there was a thread a few days ago pooping on liberals for not paying attention in history class.

Idiots conflating shortages with starvation. No one was starving in the USSR since basic staples were always available. But the variety and availability of goods in a typical US supermarket was basically a luxury in the USSR, only available in special grocery stores for the political elite.

Was that old interview piece about the first McDonald's in Russia true? Apparently a meal there cost half the days wages lol.

Capitalism during a pandemic has better supply chains than even the best times in the USSR.

people did starve in the ussr. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_famine_of_1932%E2%80%931933

What you mean is that for much to most of the USSR especially late to people didn’t starve. Which is true! And shortages of basic goods from good food to simple necessities was still quite bad. A part to cars to apartments etc
