I read it. It's very boring about how le heckin tough life is as a white trash while at the very same time being extra boring by being a stealth self help books with quotes like how the rich aren't successful because of nepo and inherited wealth but because they follow some sigma male grindset.
But it does contain some dark satire like where it attacks right wingers by suggesting "right wingers say big government causes problems even though none of the effects of big government have ever reached the trailer trash mongoloids, benefits or harm. And yet that riles up a lot of white trash precisely because they are white trash. Trashoids can't take responsibility of their actions so they make a demon out of anyone perceived to be different from them to project. The coastern elites and liberals. The Ivy Leaguers. The immigrants. The intellectuals etc. The Conservatives tap this again and again, whenever needed"

I think the Vance pick is more for attracting suburban voters than rural (although I'm sure Trumps campaign will try to earn more rural voters as well). He is well educated and speaks more cogently about issues.
The fact is, Trump will do very well with rural and white working class voters again. Biden bragged about his supposed connection with WWC voters but he only improved Hillary's margins by 2-3% and generally did worse in terms of "net" votes in rural areas (due to high turnout).
The 2020 election was won by getting better margins in suburban areas and maximizing youth and minority turnout. The Trump campaign is betting low enthusiasm for Biden will lead to lower turnout on those groups. Combating inflation and crime is their pitch to suburbanoids.
The Democrats' best hope is their well-funded election machine in swing states that uses mail-in ballots and many other measures to maximize turnout and convince suburban voters to switch. In states where they don't have a electoral machine (Florida, Ohio, Iowa), they've been struggling mightily

All the other VP candidates would have done this better, especially moderates like Burgum or Youngkin. Vance has ties with actual white nationalists, which the Democrats will hammer nonstop. He performed 11 points below other Republicans in 2022. Vance only hurts the campaign.

I think Haley and Youngkin would've attracted more suburban voters, but Trump doesn't trust them (or they would've declined anyway).
I disagree with calling Vance's senate race a underperformance. State races are a bit different than nationalized races. Much more likely to be partisan

I actually read it and found it very relatable as I grew up in public housing with deadbeat parents. The actual story of growing up was the most interesting as he describes his own families origin and you can trace back what family frickups lead to his own youth sucking.
He didn't really go further about his time in the military, college or work though, I stopped about more than halfway through since it started devolving to nothing special, around the part he starts talking a lot about his wife.
