:marseypoor: :marseylaugh: I have already started building Kennesaw State into a dynasty because I gave EA an extra $20. But seriously unlike NMS College Football 25 is a lot of fun and lives up to the hype.

i couldn't bring myself to pay another $30 just to get it a couple days early. i don't care about any of the ultimate team BS.

also of course yer doing kennesaw state like EVERYONE ELSE PLAYING THE GAME. :talk2hand:

They are the worst rated team and 1* prestige so it makes sense everyone picks them. If you want the worst team it is either them or Ball State and being from the South the choice was easy between Indiana and Georgia because I want :marseyairquotes:athletes:marseyairquotes: on my team.

anyone who doesn't pick their favorite team for their first dynasty isn't actually a football fan and probably plays the sims or somethin :hmph:

what's up with them releasing updates and nearly every time it breaks at least one version of the game

it took them like 5 updates to make the switch version work after breaking it with one

Well there are 16 of them and they have a playerbase in the millions on every conceivable platform this gen and last plus the dinky Switch and the game has an absolutely absurd number of moving parts. A big part of the NMS update hype experience is getting to play unpaid QA tester for the first few days while they lock themselves in the office overnight for a week and push out fixes at all hours of the day and night.

I thought the graphics were shit but it turns out the first planet I spawned on was just a toxic hellhole. Game is actually pretty good so far!

One thing to keep in mind with NMS is that it's not really comparable to anything, so there's no frame of reference for anything. "Like X but with Y" descriptors don't work at all, it's very much its own thing and getting the most out of it I think requires a different approach than what's standard. There are objectives and shit and you'll always have a million things you want to doβ€”projects of your own, objectives from quests, etc.β€”but overall the real point of the game is seeing and doing things entirely for the sake of seeing and doing them. Which isn't everyone's thing by any means, but that's the intent and the core of the lifer experience.

That and joining the Hub 400 hours down the line so you can get unnecessarily involved in imaginary bureaucracy and sports leagues and colonies and such :paranoid:

But yeah the game is often beautiful like nothing else. There's also a lot of frick ugly shit. But it's a near-infinite universe and the ugly shit just emphasizes the gorgeous and extremely cool stuff which finding and seeing will be the driving force behind any truly longterm commitment.

The graphics remind me a lot of Satisfactory for some reason, and that's a pretty game in itself.

I'm fairly sure I'm still in the tutorial (just left a space station) but from all the random shit you stumble upon there seems to be a lot of depth.

Also, I usually suck at driving in games, and it turns out my piloting is even worse. :marseyshrug:

Yeah the game used to be just

"You are on a hazardous planet. Sort it out." for the intro and while that was a lot of FUN, they've now added what seems to be a very robust tutorial that covers approximately half a percent of the game's mechanics but makes the beginning fairly smooth.

Once you've got a hyperdrive installed you're free to go anywhere you want and nothing is gated behind anything (aside from unlocks from missions with specific rewards obviously). You also don't need to worry about like Oh I can't go too far or I'll never find my way back here or anything because if you get decently far away from any mission that game lets you reassign it to a new location locally. Nothing is missable at any time.

The starting ship is 1) a C-Class (on a scale of C to S) 2) Shuttle (other types of ship are fighter (combat and maneuverability), explorer (distance), hauler (pretty useless after the Waypoint update honestly), solar (too hard to explain), interceptor (the current meta, excels at speed and combat and most importantly fashion), and exotic (all S class but lower stats than upgrading any specific dedicated ship type to S but dirt cheap and cool aesthetics) with 3) no upgrades, it handles like a particularly poorly designed boat and that isn't you lol.

Anything that is frustrating or annoying nowβ€”most notably jetpack distance, health, shit inventory space, ship handling, resources, etc.β€”will become utterly trivialized after playing for awhile. Progression is real and tangible and there are unironically absolutely no QOL problems whatsoever, people just often get frustrated in the beginning because it seems like a grind as you scrabble for early game resources. This does not persist. Eventually you will have automatically charging launchers and a hyperdrive that just needs 1 of 939292 radiant shards or hypercores you have, you'll be able to stand in an extreme grade storm for hours without feeling it, tornados can throw you into lightning and it'll do virtually nothing, you'll have ships that handle better than a lot of racing games, you will have thousands of inventory spaces, life support will need you to toss like 3 oxygen into it every few days, hazard protection becomes functionally limitless, etc.

NMS is my neurodivergent special interest you're under no obligation to read any of this I just feel a moral obligation to explain and defend it because it very strongly relies on a rough, somewhat frustrating early to create the omnipresent sense of progression and growth and people often mistake this for poor design because there's a lot of irritants early on and they assume they're the entire game. There is no grind. There is just scrabbling for shit when you start out until you learn to make it unnecessary.

Might be time to jump back in!

I do this nearly every update, then within an hour I'm bored and turn it off again.

Wish I could like this game with all the work they put into it.

I don't blame you; the game is as wide as an ocean but as deep as a puddle. :marseyxd:

I guess. Though, it seems like the game gets infinitely wider with each update

So that's gotta count for something, right?

They've added some depth. A few inches at least. I doubt we're going to discover the challenger deep that everyone is craving anytime soon, but each update does add a little depth at least to some areas.

It's one of those games that I follow every major update, but I think it'd take a new game or sequel built on the No Man's Sky engine to get me to really dive in.
