Holy shit, Trump went from "shoot someone in Manhattan/grab'embythegirlussy/lock her up" type of cartoon level candidate for memes to full on Cheney level neoconite - keep it vague, keep it simple, as soon as we're in power, we're going to profit. No need to rile up channers and wignatstrags on twitter. We don't need them anymore.

Fully on board the Trump camp now :marseyletsfuckinggo2:

This is actually the Trump version libs should be most afraid of.

I think people are undervaluing the chances for Trump in 2024, as Trump has been more disciplined and strategic in the 2024 presidential campaign than in the last two campaigns. Trump really, really, really wants this and I think that level of commitment makes him much more likely.

Trump is from NY, has been in the media business for like 30 years, and has multiple affairs. There's no chance he had any strong feelings against gays or abortions.

Libs know this. The reason libs hate him so much is because he rubberstamps whatever the actual crazies in his party want because he doesnt care about any of it. They could want to rename the US KKKNation and he'd say whatever as long as the narc supply of being prezzy kept him high.

theres also the thing where republicans have been on a 40 year crusade against the middle and lower class, which like, idunno, seems like something that might matter to some democrats. Trump may be a lot of things, but at his core he sees himself as a rich guy, and the rich guys interests are who hes going to advance.

This is true. I think the issue is who's interest is Biden advancing?

It's weird, lowering taxes does not really affect me; I'm not rich enough for the tax cuts nor am I poor enough to get the benefits from the social programs. But I usually feel progressive policies; I pay more taxes but still don't get the services... Having a privileged bluehair lecture me about what's in my best interest, does not help either.

Those of the professional managerial class of white, educated men and single women. They've abandoned rank-and-file working class voters and are tenuously holding on to Latinx and blacks.

Most people who personally know him say that's pretty darn obvious.

You know what's curious to me though? Democrats and liberals will say almost everything about Trump, but they never seem to challenge that he's a teetotaler, that he's never done drugs, and doesn't smoke. It's curious to me though because his entire persona makes you think he'd be exactly the guy to engage in all three vices, especially given his Studio 54 days and such.

Gotta say...even as someone who isn't a huge fan of Orange Man, it is very much the right (heh) call to make.

Midterms proved that banking too hard on the social issues can ultimately backfire for the Wacky Elephants...so naturally, the ULTIMATE APPRENTICE knows that it's best to focus more (if not only) on economy (and maybe immigration) and then maybe sneak in something social once the result's guaranteed.

Smart politicking, I'd say! :marseyclappingglasses:

I literally don't think Trump really gives a shit about abortion or gay rights. As in, he's not going to push to ban them.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Not really. The gay marriage thing is done; he's concerned about curbing the excesses (the T's running amok mostly). On abortion, he fulfilled his mission for me: reversing Roe was a masterful decision that erased the Court's worst decision since Dred Scott. After that, I really don't care about which state legalizes it or doesn't.

Abortion was done, too! It's ain't over until it's over. Trump is like Rocky, no matter how many times he gets punched in the face he can always have a robot butler in the sequel.

It was not even "done" when Roe was decided. In '74, only about 7 states I believe had even legalized abortion; Roe came in with its r-slurred logic and decided the issue for all 50 states and inflamed the country for the next 40 years, doing as much harm to the Court as slavery did. Dobbs said abortion is not a federal issue, it's a state issue, so go bother your state legislatures if you want to terminate a pregnancy or don't.

So, yes, now it's done. Lindsay Graham can shout all he wants about a federal ban, but he's as stupid for thinking that'd pass muster with the Court as faux-Indian Lizzy Warren is for thinking codifying Roe would too.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Same exact deal as gay marriage: Supreme court overruled the states and decided the issue. You're just salty because you think you'll get to keep all your precious "rights". Look, I'm willing to give up my RU486 for the cause, but do you love DDR enough to stop sucking peepee? I highly doubt it. :hmph:

Jump in the discussion.

Culture shifted incredibly quickly on that though, as opposed to creating a massive culture of war issue.

Furthermore gay marriage is fundamentally a much less inflammatory issue than abortion, for obvious reasons.

Jump in the discussion.

The Court didn't even consider reversing Bowers until years later, and deliberately waited for Lawrence to come around 20 years later. Even then, the Court didn't even consider DOMA or gay marriage in general until another decade. You know what happened in between? Broad societal acceptance of gays and lesbians, and several states moving to pass their own laws on the subject or for their state supreme courts to do similarly. It was the exact opposite of what happened with Roe, and for that reason many Republicans have moved on from it. That was all on Justice Kennedy, by the way.

(Except me, because I never thought - and still don't - think that marriage is a federal issue, but whatever.)

>Gay marriage thing is done

Obergefell is on thin ice since it relies on the exact same kind of "spirit of the law" argument as Roe. GOP might be able to crack it as long as there are just enough non kitty repubs.

..and they should, too. I need that meltdown like nothing else.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I disagree. Roe was predicated on penumbras and poorly defined ideas of viability. Obergefell has a stronger equal protection basis than that (and an Article IV privileges and immunities argument). I don't disagree that the decision was flimsy in its reasoning, but I found it more defensible than Roe or Casey ever was.

But honestly, you'd need political will to challenge it, and it's absolutely not there.

>But honestly, you'd need political will to challenge it, and it's absolutely not there.

Not at the moment; it's not much of a substantive issue because DOMA got formally repealed allowing interstate marriages.

But it will come if a trans/gay push to get married in church makes it to the top of the news cycle.

Or more likely, if some lolcow uses Obergefell to push for legalizing incest and/or polyamory (LOVE IS LOVE, BIGGIT!).
