Basedness: ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”˜๐Ÿ”˜

Servers usually make only 2.13 an hour and the tips are pretty much the only thing they work for and the thing that actually pays their bills. It's not necessarily an entitlement, but a need for them to survive. (-16)

Im in california, they make minimum wage at least $16 and they still expect 20% (14)

So then in your example, who is abusing the worker? The customer or the owner? (1)

Absolutely the owner. 10000%. This is not the customers responsibility. It's fricked up that the situation is such that a human is making $80/wk working full time without those tips. I would abolish tips and estate proper minimum wages IN AN INSTANT if I could. The system is unfair and fricked.AND YET. People will go hungry tonight explicitly because other people feel they are "refusing to take part in some bullshit tipping culture". I understand. I fricking do. I'm just saying that there are thousands of single mothers out there who are simply a victim of circumstance. No opportunities. Small town America. I'm saying don't fight your social justice tip battles with those women. You think you're doing good, and that's the most disgusting fricking part.Vote. Protest. Write your governor. Refusing to tip single mom Suzy is NOT FRICKING HELPING, and you're NOT A HERO for it, quite the opposite.I have tried to demonstrate I understand how fricking bullshit tipping culture is, and then I tried... No server makes $2.13. Most servers make more than most regular jobs pay. But, if they did make that little, I didn't sign them up to work for that. Why should I be made to pay their wages (whatever they deem that as) because their bad choice of a low paying job?No person would work for $2.13. Not in this day, anyways. Most brag how much they make. That's as bad as the myth saying: "they make negative/pay out of pocket if cheap people don't tip!!!1"Edit: if a server doesn't make minimum wage in all states, the employer legally has to cover it. Because it's the standard (-6)

I don't know why this is getting downmarseyd. It is the standard. I sometimes think people on here are just angry idiots downvoting anything that appears to be pro-tipping.I'm massively anti tipping - I think the tipping culture has become abhorrent and ridiculous. Tipping everywhere, huge tip amounts, double tipping. All that bullshit. But it is the standard. And that's why it's so awful and so hard to get around. Because it's everywhere. But it is the standard. It shouldn't be, and while everyone keeps just tipping and ignoring the "No tip" option, it is going to continue to be.But it is the standard. At the moment. (1)

Bait idea: make pro-tip a codeword for anti-black.

if you can't afford to tip you shouldn't come to this restaurant

It's very simple. That's the agreed upon social norm. Many people don't know this but a lot of restaurants are on razor thin margins with food. Alcohol is another story (and you usually need an extortion fee a liquor license to combat that. If restaurants want to be profitable they'd have to raise prices a decent amount, which we all know people are already bitching about nonstop.

So you have two options, raise prices that price out poors (not a bad choice actually) or continue with the agreed upon social contract.

Secondly, these fricking morons think shit like TGI Chilibees is a normal restaurant. Go to any nicer place where they actually hire anything more than a warm body and servers are generally much more versed in menu options and alcohol pairings. It's ironic the same people that think minimum wage should be $30/hr are the same ones complaining about people who hire anyone with a pulse and expect a tug down at the end of their meal. You think it's bad now, that shit would incentivize worse service based on the types that choose to work there.

Does anyone who gets tips actually want to get rid of them and just get a flat wage? @sandkwinn ?

Sweaty. Servers would take a massive pay cut if wages were raised but tips went away.

Waiting was a job taken traditionally by young single mothers so tipping was a form of charity. Now it's populated by would-be bums and old single mothers.
