Okay, so you somehow pass higher public salaries in an economy most consumers consider regressive to appease people chanting "defund the police." You're a maverick.
So you have your gaggle of liberal arts grads all glocked up with nowhere to go as prisons are overfilled and courts are backlogged.
They endure the existing anti-cop sentiment because they have a high paycheck, they endure higher scrutiny as crime rates don't improve because they have a high paycheck. They watch BIPOCs beat and r*pe their kids' friends but stay resolute in the belief of objectivity, community policing and restorative justice because they have a high paycheck.

That's why I think a Public Service Draft is better.
And I don't mean liberal arts grads, I mean whatever decently high IQ, physically fit people get selected based on aptitude (of being able to enforce laws but not be a frickhead) and sent to a community similar to their own to serve for 2 years.

I love the idea of a public service draft to instill a sense of civic nationalism in all the lefty flagburners, and its my most illiberal belief.
I think policing is always going to be attractive to a certain personality type, and you can't suppress individual pattern recognition of just how awful blacks act in this country when you're tasked with curbing it. Natives "self-police" and their reservations are the r*pe capitals of the world since victims don't have a way to actually hold the perpetrators accountable when everyone knows everyone and victims are seldom perfect.
It's best to make peace with the fact that victims of modern police brutality probably deserve it or have severe mental health issues that make it impossible to accommodate for them, but I repeat myself.
