I don't think you understand how easy it is to fall under crushing medical debt in our society. About a third of my family have had a moderate medial emergency happen to them during a time (when for one reason or another) they did not have health insurance. For every single one of them they now have medical debt for the rest of their lives. Sure the hospitals are ok with them just sending in $100 every few months but their dream of hitting comfortable middle-class are forever gone. That is their reality. And for those whom that has not yet happened, to many of them "the idea of looming medical debt" is not actually enough of a deterrent. And this is taking politics out of it and totally ignoring the group of "keep the pandemic going to own the libs" who I hope are truly just a small minority.
