Americans are pretty unique in scoring well in reading and science tests but completely failing in maths.
Could any burgers explain this?

Literacy is recognized as pretty important for literally anyone in modern society, but there's also a massive population of burgers that have zero aspiration to do anything more intellectually challenging than working a deep fryer. I know that sounds ridiculous to a non-burger but I literally heard People of Kangz say "this is pointless, I'm never gonna use this" starting in fourth grade math with basic plotting and introductory algebra.
I think the top half of burger society is absolutely competitive with any other nation, perhaps even the best in the world. The lower half is made up of the laziest bums you can imagine. They just don't have any desire to learn anything at all. And to be fair, for their lifestyle, they really don't need to know anything beyond basic arithmetic. That's how high their plans for life go.

Itβs not that they donβt aspire to be better, itβs that they arenβt taught how higher math will be useful to them beyond college. If their parents arenβt college educated and the school isnβt explaining how algebra will help them earn a 6 figure salary then it just seems like algebra is only useful to get to the next level of math. Same thing happened to me. Blue collar parents and apathetic math teachers. Had no idea the real importance of math until military and college.

It's probably for the best tbh. The goal of these programs is to integrate potential meth-head gangbangers back into society. Right now, if you fail school, no sane business is going to hire you - and if you are more engaged in your "neighbourhood culture" than in math, you are going to fail school. This is bad for the state, as it creates a culture that is thoroughly economically and politically detached from the rest of the nation. But if you lower the bar enough, those people can get their school slip and potentially get hired - and as you said, they probably don't need to know anything beyond basic arithmetic anyway
The price of this is reduced social mobility for the middle class, but frick the middle class unironically
