I especially like this thread where they discuss the most diverse Supreme Court justice ever
The original study didn't control for birth weight? That is literally the strongest predictor of neonatal mortality. Incredible that they got published.
And it got extremely widespread circulation and citation, including by a Supreme Court justice. Because as shitty as the original study was, it supported the hot narrative at the time.
β¦ lol and you don't want to even know what the Justice misrepresented the already wrong finding as.
What did she say?
That for black babies, having a black doctor doubles the likelihood of them living.
Holy shit. Scary that someone with that low of an understanding of how statistics work is in such a high position

I mean, it is a useless study if you aren't controlling for the child's baseline health. If more black children die under the care of white doctors, but white doctors are more likely to provide high risk and NICU careβ¦bye bye narrative
It bothers me because it's made black women more anxious about receiving standard pre-natal care and hospital births, and look more towards birthing centers and midwifery, which can be semi-okay options for SOME pregnancies, but certainly not all. Plus the general sewing of distrust between patient and OB, and general increase in anxiety that's bad for pregnancy.
Makes me unironically really sad that women and babies can end up put at risk because someone wanted to make waves publishing stats they knew were flawed.

What generation of warfare is it where you don't even commit violence, just write articles saying "you should keep yourself safe... now!" and send them to your enemies?

Well I'm sure that the people running all our institutions have taken notice and implemented systems that will prevent such fraudulent studies informing policy and decision making in the future

I just finished a podcast on the California COVID vaccine rollout and it was pretty bleak for the state of decision makers in America. Only 25% of shots were actually given due to the complication and time wasted creating the system of who gets priority. It seemed like the only concern about who got it was identity and voting blocks. A group of volunteers had to create a system to track where vaccines were, and the governor threatened to prosecute health workers that gave expiring shots to people who weren't considered priority. I don't know why people aren't calling for jailing incompetent politicians and bureaucrats over it

Literally 0 (ZERO) babies, Black or white, have ever died under my care. Perhaps the solution isn't more Black or white Drs but... more Wigger Dr.s!!!
