The original study didn't control for birth weight? That is literally the strongest predictor of neonatal mortality. Incredible that they got published.
And it got extremely widespread circulation and citation, including by a Supreme Court justice. Because as shitty as the original study was, it supported the hot narrative at the time.

For anyone curious to what this actually means:
Have a healthy baby -> any doctor takes care of it.
Have an unhealthy baby -> need a really good doctor to take care of it.
Most of the good doctors are white, unhealthy babies are more likely to die.
