Video game streamer goes to Brazil to play games. Decides to go outside for 10 minutes and immediately gets robbed. Commenters try hard not to victim blame him for going to the BAD PART of town (the historical center).

https://youtube.com/watch?v=jH4uLWOK2JE

TLDR:

>Went to Sao Paulo from Australia just to play League of Legends

>Didn't go outside there for 10 days

>Finally leaves the "facility" to see 1 market and 1 cathedral

>The second he pulls out his phone to call an uber it gets stolen

>Gets locked out of accounts, 2FAs being disabled etc

>He messages his manager but robber interferes and deletes the messages right after they are sent :marseyxd:

>Tries going to police but they don't care

>"The facility" and his room can be unlocked with only his phone, says his room number on there too :xd:

>Spends a night fearing for his life and gets flown out of the country the next day

He deserves it for being a g*mer 😉

Highlights:

People told me Brazil is dangerous, but I've also been told Paris and LA were dangerous places and it wasn't bad at all. :marseyclueless:

Wh*toids when they realize Chicago isn't as bad as third world countries :marseyaware:

I've never seen an economic situation like this, I've never seen this many homeless people :marseyaware:

And that's although he's been "to every major city".

Kept my phone in my underwear the whole time, pull it out to check for my uber, immediately get hit :soycry:

Cyberattacks are completely different to physical.

Smartest g*mer.

They were reading the messages to my manager and deleting my messages, deleting the messages coming in, they were interrupting all of my line of communication.

Tbf I didn't think Brazilians were capable of this.

I can hear the cop listening to a football game in the background.... They don't care. :soycry:

Based cop

And then I realize I'm actually in real physical danger. They had my exact physical location, they had my phone, which they could use to get into the building, they had my room number, they had the key to get in (it was a pass code in my messages).

Okay I got bored watching at this point so let's look at some comments :

The cathedral he went to is close to a region widely known as 'Crackland.' Needless to say, there are many fiends wandering around that area. Whenever traveling, always do some research and, if possible, ask locals where you should and shouldn't go. I'm half Brazilian and lived many years of my life there, and indeed, if you don't know how to navigate the country, it can be really dangerous. However, it's a big country with many beautiful tourist spots that are very safe. In a way, it's like the USA—going to someplace like Vermont is pretty chill, but I would never wander around Chicago.

"Widely known as crackland" 😂😂😂😂😭😂😭😂 Also Chicagoans thoughts on this Brazilian saying he'd never dare wander around Chicago because it's too dangerous? @FrozenChosen

Obv muricans are taking offense 😡😡

Chicago is actually an awesome city, and you would be safe just about anywhere worth seeing. That crack must hit different there. In Oakland the crack addicts just want to fix my car and sweep the sidewalks lmao

Chicago's homicide rate is over 3 times higher than São Paulo's.

São Paulo's old center is basically what Americans call a Skid Row, some streets are taken my homeless people and drug addicts.

This thread then devolves into some odd Brazilian ritual chanting:

isso diz muito sobre nosso país, acho incrível como usar uma mochila nas costas é meme pra um paulista por exemplo. Um gringo não entende esse tipo de coisa porque ele não conhece o que a gente passa no nosso dia a dia.

Idk either

From a brazilian cop, quick tip to you guys out there, if you want a tour around here and the city in itself is not a touristic one (the big ones usually aren't, an exception would be the cities by the beach) avoid the city center. They're usually the oldest district in town and normally hold the title for the worst neighborhoods around, having a high concentration of homeless people. I myself moved to a bigger city (Curitiba - Paraná) and felt this myself. Always ask around for the richest neighborhood, or the one that concentrates the entertainment, wich usually won't be the center. And for god's sake, stay WAAAAAY clear from any favela.

"If you're a tourist, DO NOT go to the only historically interesting parts of the cities." :marseyconfused2:

The Brazilianization of the World

Welcome to Brazil. Here the only people satisfied with their situation are financial elites and venal politicians. Everyone complains, but everyone shrugs their shoulders. This slow degradation of society is not so much a runaway train, but more of a jittery rollercoaster, occasionally holding out promise of ascent, yet never breaking free from the tracks. We always come back to where we started, shaken and disoriented, haunted by what might have been.

Boyde's run, from the southeastern neighborhood of Itaim Bibi to the airport some 30 kilometers (20 miles) away, takes nine minutes and costs $150.

That's way, way cheaper than I expected.

They did in Roman antiquity for sure. There's at least one episode of Told In Stone that describes how some elites would like to go carousing through effectively dive bars.
