I've read only a few YA fantasies, and I know I will never be surprised what they put out.

It is pretty impressive, in a way.

Maybe YA fantasy sucked but YA overall had some great works especially pre 2000: Tale of Despereaux, Bridge to Terabithia, Jacob Have I Loved, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Hatchet, Island of the Blue Dolphins, etc. Cringe adults ended up pooping up the genre with bad characters who take part in plots with simplistic good and bad guys.

I thought it is suppose to be cringe-worthy. At least that was the charm I saw in YA literature.

Reading those pure emotions flow is really something. At least it fits the audience, unlike the romance genre, where a bunch of 50 to 60 years old writing crappy erotica.

I didn't mean cringe as how teenagers are when they're coming of age but adults treating the genre like like regular fiction but easy to read pulp that gets categorized as YA.
