I think immigration needs to be balanced. Our levels are very high for the size of our population and India is by far the largest source. I think those things need to change, we need a course correction with lower numbers and more balance from different places.

I grew up in Quebec, Anglophone, I've seen what it takes to preserve a culture. Decisive, sometimes (what seems)radical action. Was I treated equally as an anglophone in Quebec? Definitely not. Was I eventually forced to leave or bear it? I'm in Ontario as a result. But ya know what? I'm Ok. In fact I'm likely where I should be. I can speak my language, and go about my business. Do I miss the Quebec culture, sure! Do I appreciate the culture where I ended up? Yes again. And you know what, I'm glad Quebec is willing to fight to preserve its culture - so why don't we do this on the federal level?

I don't see how it's racist. It doesn't matter where one comes from or what they look like, there is still no room currently and we are way over capacity.

Don't forget the majority of United States Reddit leans Democrat, and US Democrats strongly opposite any negative views of immigration by nearly any margin. Not demeaning them, just being honest and accurate.

To be fair with you, I'm a left-leaning US Citizen and I agree - specifically on Indians. I'm seeing low-income migrant Indians coming into low-income US areas and dominating culture by only interacting with fellow Indians - the opposite of what Immigration should be. We aren't opening our doors to sell you land, we're opening our doors to invite you into our culture.
I'm also witnessing high-income indians migrate and dominate high-level business - destroying the ability for native-born citizens to do so as well.
But if I speak this to fellow left-leaners, I'm a "conservative cuck".
Intent matters. If it were a million European migrants instead of a million Indian migrants and there wasn't an outcry from the same person over both, despite this migration also affecting jobs, housing, and altering Canadian culture (which is separate and apart from Old World cultures like European or Indian ones), then it would be racist.
It's worth spending the time to make sure.
European cultures are much more compatible with our culture than Indian cultures are.

Sure. I agree but my concern is that how much of this immigration crisis is manufactured by social media, mass media and opportunistic politicians. Having grown up in the 70s and seeing first hand many of my immigrant friends become suvcessful and productive I dont want government immigration policy to be decimated due to politics. We need immigration in this country to ensure that our economy does not suffer in the future due to an aging population.

I guarantee you that every single person on these threads no matter how much they insist they're mad about immigration would clutch their pearls and cry that canada is turning into fascist america if canada actually implemented ice raids or forced deportation planes. They'd be protesting on the fricking runways that it's unethical and cruel. Modern western people are not capable of accepting pragmatic reality, they are mad about immigration but they want it to just neatly disappear without any actually unpleasant realistic solutions being taken
