No, the classification in mammalian genetics doesn't rely on having a specific pair of chromosomes. I've seen too many strags get buck-broken by a rogue who brings up intersex or Klinefelter syndrome and their only retort being some bullshit about it only happening 1 in a bagillion times.

Here's what the actual classification goes by (in mammals): having a Y chromosome makes you male. That's literally it. The Y chromosome contains the specific male genes that initiatives the process of male puberty. So let's look at some examples:

X -> sterile female

XX -> normal female

XXX -> tall skinny angry foid

XXXX and beyond -> see XXX

Y -> aborted fetus

XY -> male

XYY -> tall angry neurodivergent male

XYYY and beyond -> see XYY

XXY -> sterile male with foidian characteristics

So there you go, that's it: having a Y chromosome makes you male, not having one means you are a female if your fetus is viable to begin with. I speak in terms of mammilian genetics because other types of animals like birds have ZZ males and ZW females.

There is one edge case because biology isn't an exact math: when the Y chromosome doesn't tranlate some of its genes and so its arguable that the Y chromosome isn't even there. However, that's complete bullshit because there is absolutley no fricking way that a single gene didn't get transcribed at some point over years and years of it just hanging out around trillions of DNA transcription enzymes.
