I don't think he's ever been religious in his adult life I'm just poking at him because he's good-natured about it. I think he's probably a harder nut to crack because he's not miserable which sets him apart from 8-9/10 people here who sooner or later will start searching for answers to what ails them.

I haven't seen too many instances of ascribing bizarre motivations to atheists (?) if you want to give examples for me to understand what you're getting at. I mean the idea of a universal human nature is pretty fundamental to our belief, the same reasons Christians behave the ways they do would apply to atheists. Generally speaking, the differences between us would be in what we conceive to be "good" and worth pursuing.

You do know we mutually recognize one another to have valid Sacraments and all, right? Orthodox priests can rejoin the Catholic Church without changing their practice in any way except adding a prayer for the pope during the Consecration and showing up to councils if they're a bishop. :marseyhmm: If @r-slur_but_spooky became a devout Orthodox Christian I'd still be happy.

Yes, there are some minor squabbles over theology, but the hierarchy is the only actual sticking point given that concepts like the Assumption are Orthodox just with a different name (Dormition).

I like that we're pinging @r-slur_but_spooky still. :marseywave2: I'm not sure that praying or evangelizing less is a W from a Christian perspective. Historically the Eastern Church was very devout, though at this point it does seem to be largely an ethnic/national cultural relic for the younger generations. Maybe the aversion to evangelizing is from everyone in the community having already been raised within the Church?

Regardless I'm sure some of the :marseybabushka:s still attend Divine Liturgy every week and pray for their wayward grandsons. :marseypraying:
