A few months ago my fuel pump died and I left the car on the side of the road for a half hour while I ran to get my tools and a spare pump motor. When I got back somebody had thrown a single slice of Kraft “American Cheese” at the window.

I took a photo because it was funny but then I got on with my life and replaced the fuel pump on the shoulder in the rain because I’m a man and not some fruity tech b-word in a Tesla.

It takes so fricking long to repair Teslas, my gf got rear ended a few months ago and it took 2 months to get parts ordered and replaced because the entire city has 3 certified repair shops. They also charged the person at fault’s insurance like 15k for the rental and repairs.

Yeah because they think they know better than 100+ years of automotive engineering, supply channels and logistics. All that matters to them is getting that initial sale in order to keep the number going up.

Have you seen the Lucid Air? I got to check one out at a showroom this week and they seem a lot more appealing to me. Built quality is a lot better than Teslas.

Lucid and Rivian are both doing some really quality stuff while taking into account initial quality and long-term reliability (they’re obviously going to have some hiccups along the way).

Tesla could’ve had a super solid product if they put more resources into their body engineering, quality control and service rather than waste time on fart apps and basic drivers assistance options marketed as autonomous driving.

The problem now is so many flaws are baked into the original designs and tooling and they’re not going to be able to fix some of it without starting with a clean slate design.

All they had to do was hire, listen to, and retain a few industry veterans who understand the steps required for quality and efficient manufacturing rather than talk shit and pretend you’re inventing the factory of the future while using the same “robots” as every other auto manufacturer, then giving up and building them in a tent with consumer level Milwaukee power tools because you’re too arrogant to hire anyone who knows how to set it up.

I’m agree with you. That’s why I’m waiting for Lucid to make smaller car in 6-7 years before going electric. Teslas are a fricking mess. I hate the UI and lack of carplay so they can sell you movies or whatever once self driving is the norm. Did I mention the navigation fricking sucks?

They’re extremely impressive to people who never cared about cars other than as appliances but get really excited about having the next new tech thing and trade in their Camry or Accord to do so.

Just about every car company sucks at the moment except the Koreans - which is really weird for me to say as I’d have a really hard time buying anything but German (I’ll sacrifice some reliability for fun and build quality) or Japanese (boring but tried and true reliability). If I had to buy a luxobarge today it would be a Genesis.

That said, my M440iX GranCoupe has been stuck at the port and a month overdue because of the chip shortage, but I’m really interested in how the new i4 performs as it’s basically the exact same car with a different power source.

That’s the one. I was originally dead set on the M340ix with the normal grille but have wanted a 4 or 6/8 series GranCoupe since they first came out, especially because of the hidden hatchback feature.

Then I realized the 4-series retained a lot of the options that the 3 lost due to supply shortages, along with having a few never available on the 3. For me the grille was a little bothersome at first but I understand where the designer was coming from based on its heritage and now the smaller grille on the 3-Series looks dated to me.

I think what also contributed to my appreciation for it is just how much drama it’s caused. I also drive the ugliest generation 911 because all I really care about is the view from the driver’s seat.

So I went all out and loaded that b-word up with every option. Pic attached is the color but I went with dark brown on the inside.
