This has been my view of H1B even before the rightoid twitter civil war. It needs to be changed from lotto to merit based and it needs to somehow be tweaked to remove the modern 'indentured servitude' aspect. IDK how to do that tbh. Maybe increase the time they have to find another job after leaving/being let go from 60 days to a year?

For the "indentured servitude" aspect, why connect it to a job at all? Give visas to immigrants with useful skills or education. If they get a job great. But if they can't America's pretty expensive and immigrants can't get most welfare (should stop the municipal programs that do aid immigrants). If they can't succeed they can weed themselves out. What does it need to be tied to a job?

That works too if you want to keep it a work supplementation thing and not a brain drain thing. I was angling for the brain drain angle, but if it is truly just for employers who can't find Americans just massively increase employer costs and it should work.

There are plenty of American engineers who are out of work or doing jobs that don't require their degrees. The issue here is they'd require a lot of training since these are dudes with 0-1 relevant jobs on their resume. Easy way to integrate these people is to have the navy/army/airforce create engineering corps for more disciplines and buckbreak :marseytariq2: them into being respectable employees.

A medical degree in India puts you on the level of a mid state satellite grad program in the us lmao. These guys also can barely do anything without chat at their beck and call.
