One warrior and his graph single handedly fights a horde of poors and proves that they deserve to pay more taxes.

Ah least redditors include codecels, Iโ€™d imagine the median Twitter user is even less likely to be a tax payer

I find that economics is the only branch of the social sciences that actually understands statistics.

I think its one of the few branches where its drilled into our heads causation is not the same as correlation among other things for statistics in the beginning itself

It's not just that. I've seen social scientists fail to reject the null hypothesis and then accept it, never bothering to do an equivalence test. Or doing crazy regressions and not realizing that multicollinearity is causing them to get a really high variance for the effect they are trying to measure.

Science is when I run OLS with 165 variables and get a r squared of 0.31 so I boost it to 166 variables and get a r squared of 0.32

There is nothing scientific about the social sciences

Yes but it doesn't stop them from drawing r-slurerd conclusions. See the trillion dollar bill on the sidewalk as an example

It's also one of the only social sciences with a ton of constant and recent data to work with. Makes it a bit harder (although still easy) to be completely up your own butt than something like anthropology.

I was actually thinking of sociology, which also has a ton of constant/recent data but often gets the stats methodology wrong.

Sociology is much harder since the data you receive is usually filthy with sampling biases or collected on a shoestring budget.

That doesn't excuse basic statistical methodology errors.

Stats errors are the least of your concerns if your input data is garbage. You canโ€™t polish a turd.

I would wager that the stats methodology errors are their attempts to polish a turd.

Sure, because all they have are turds. ยฏ_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ

Iโ€™ve been working as an economist for six years now on public projects and rarely do I ever do math more complicated than undergrad stats and calculus because a) my clients want to be able to repeat the math in their hands and b) when you have access to literally every relevant piece of historic data, you donโ€™t need to really introduce fuzziness into your models by bootstrapping or simulating for additional data points.

Meanwhile if youโ€™re a sociologist, good luck getting anything you donโ€™t cobble together yourself, and good luck passing any statistical tests when youโ€™re trying to hold for the fact that all your survey respondents are felons are white college-aged foids.

You see, when Trump donated his entire income, his income tax was $750. No, donโ€™t pay attention to the millions he paid in other annual taxes. Those donโ€™t count

The social media rule of tax analysis is as follows:

Do I still have to do anything to earn my social benefits? If so, raise taxes on the rich more.

I wonder what Twitter users think happens with unrealized gains on stocks. Do they think its just a cheat code to not get taxed? How can they not understand that it's funny money until you realize the asset? Common sense stuff, but I bet they are just repeating words without any understanding.
