Whats a pot cod derby? Howโs the pay? Most of the time I love having a well paying wfh job but I also hate having to spend 1-2 hours a day exercising to make up for sitting all day.
This morning, Cum went to the park. I went with Coom. And Cum brought Coomer frisbee. At least I think it was Coomers. By the end of the day, Cum started throwing the frisbee to Cumself.

Pot cod derby is a stupid r-slurred nightmare that doesn't pay shit. It's basically the first two weeks of b-season crab, they make you do it because they can and it makes the company money.
Derby fisheries are where it is open for a set period of time and you can catch as much as you want during it. Basically you don't sleep. Crab isn't a derby anymore because too many people died. Pot codding is literally the exact same thing though just with cod instead of crab and you don't make money.
If you want to get into fishing you want to go to Bristol bay. It's a summer salmon derby. Boats are small, 3-4 people, and the captains are always looking for crew. Average pay is probably 15k for a new guy for a month and a half. Like everything it's by crewshare, as a new guy you want 8%. If you look around you can find Facebook groups where captains are hiring, I guarantee you can get a job if you want one. It's my favorite season.

I have a full time job, I canโt just quit for a month to go catch fish lol. I was in Alaska during the salmon run and kind of wish I got to go on the boats for a day but I feel like theyโre busy as shit and donโt want a random butt guy staring and being in the way.

You would have to pay a lot of money to get a fishing boat to take a random guy on just to watch lol. For one thing, there isn't a lot of space. I know some guys who have had journos on and they've always said it was terrible.

Ya but journos are fricking r-slurred. It seems like rough work, I had a few beers with a former military guy while in Alaska who would work on salmon boats in the summer and he gave me a lot of detail.

It definitely is but that's kind of what makes it fun.
I honestly like summer season, it's kind of like a big long campout with the boys. The boats are private so it's not as restrictive.
Winter season is another story. Crabbing sucks unbelievably bad but you get paid for it. Plus it's kind of interesting to see just how far you can push yourself.

It's worse than anything you've heard about it lmao.
Wasn't on the show myself but I know a lot of the deadliest catch guys and have been on all the boats. I worked on one of them, but not when it was on tv.

Like an hour a day of light, cold as shit, super dangerous (WAYYYY MORE THAN OTHER FISHING). Also with most other fishing you put the net out and chill a lot of the time, with crab it's just hardcore physical labor 20 hours a day five days a week. And it's the same exact process every five minutes that whole time.
The kind of fishermen that end up crabbing call summer fishing, which most people would call brutal labor, vacation fishing. We genuinely enjoy it. Absolutely no one enjoys crabbing.
