I need to see the comments in this r/antiwork post

"I am a licensed Doctor in the U.S. and I make less than. $15.00/hour"

It's a fricking veterinarian. I can't copy paste the post for some reason. But it's a fricking veterinarian.

I am a resident veterinarian. In other words, I am a licensed doctor practicing under the supervision of board certified veterinary specialists of one specific field (ex., veterinary surgery, ophthalmology, neurology, etc.) with the goal of obtaining the necessary prerequisites to take a board exam that, if passed, enables me to label myself as a board certified veterinary specialist of my specific field (disclosed for privacy). I have a bachelor of science and a doctorate of veterinary medicine. I am licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the U.S., with two state licenses, and a DEA license. I have 1-year training in a specialty internship of my focus. Currently, I am in a 3-year specialty training program as a resident veterinarian. I have accrued nearly $200,000 in school loan debt to obtain my level of education and technical skill. There is high demand for veterinary specialists in my field of focus; pets are considered children and the parents of these pets expect the same level of care that a human child would receive. I am a salaried employee with a scheduled 40-hours per week, but in reality, I work nearly 70-80 hours per week (and this is the expectation; no questions asked). I have good health benefits but I make only $2,500 per month ($30,000/year or $15.00/hour if you count only 40 hours/week) before taxes. I treat anywhere from 3 to 10 patients per day and I'm on-call every day that I'm scheduled to work (10–12 hour shifts; 4–7 days per week). I work at a veterinary teaching hospital, so I also teach 4th-year veterinary students who follow and assist me throughout the day. It sounds insane because it is insane. This is an industry standard. The culture of veterinary specialty training has normalized the mistreatment of training doctors. We are expected to work insane hours in exchange for pennies and, eventually, the right to take a board examination that, if passed, will enable us to label ourselves as veterinary specialists. Board certified veterinary specialists in my field of focus can make anywhere from $100,00 to $200,000/year. I love the people with whom I work. My work is rewarding, exciting, and mentally/ physically/ emotionally exhausting. I am working myself to death. I have not seen my family in years. I realize this is my choice but I have definitely backed myself into a corner. Please, be nice to your veterinarian.

It’s pretty easy to Google median salaries, I don’t see why they’re complaining about it. Are we sure they’re a vet and not a vet tech?

Either way, calling yourself a doctor as a veterinarian is pretty misleading. But at least a vet can pretty easily run a cash-only practice. There’s no puppy Medicare or Medicaid you have to deal with. They’re probably just an r-slur.

No way. I'm calling it: larper is a vet tech. There are so many of these people in that sub.
