There's nowhere back east except NYC that comes even close to SF Bay comp, and New York is a worse shithole than San Fran. At least in Northern California you can get out to like, Yosemite or Sequoia. Get outside of NY and you're in Jersey.

Real estate in California is nuts, plenty of tales of old couples (or their heirs) who bought simple basic houses in the 1960s in what used to be low value land selling them for $1million+ with no modern renovation or anything.
Thereβs a video of some breadtuber having a breakdown because he canβt buy a house for asking price in LA and blaming rich people or capitalism or whatever because buying a house for asking price is Human Right. Watching him flip out was like cocaine right into my eyeballs
