Since we have a lot of newcels, I thought I'd share a simple guide on how to evade Reddit suspensions. These steps only apply to desktop. If I am missing anything or if any of my information is wrong, please let me know.

0. Don't sign up with the same email

I call this step 0 because it is so obvious that I shouldn't even have to say it. You don't even need to give Reddit an email to sign up, so don't. Just click "Next" when it asks for an email to skip that step.

1. Switch IPs if not using a VPN

If you use a VPN, you don't have to worry about switching IPs because Reddit is probably aware that you are using a VPN. If they banned your IP, they would ban a lot of other people too, which they want to avoid as long as VPNs are allowed on Reddit.

If you are using your home IP, you will have get a new one. You can check reddit.com/account-activity to see a log of all IPs you used on that account. Reddit logs the IP you signed up with forever, but all other IPs are cleared from the logs after 100 days. To see your current IP, just search "what is my ip" in your browser, and you will find plenty of sites that will tell you what it is. Sometimes turning your router off and on again changes your IP. If that doesn't work, you could try using a mobile hotspot instead since those IPs are a lot easier to change. If you don't want to use a mobile hotspot for whatever reason, then you should get a VPN. Proton VPN is pretty good since they probably don't have logs and there is a free version, which is slow, but works. Do not use Tor to create a new Reddit account. If you do, your password will be reset once you log out, locking you out of your account. On top of that, you have to go through a ton of CAPTHAS whenever you post from Tor, making posting a chore.

2. Clear cookies

Make sure to clear all cookies from Reddit and to disable third-party cookies in your browser settings if they aren't disabled already. If you are only using your ban evasion account in a private/incognito window, then this step obviously isn't necessary.

3. Avoid fingerprinting

The previous steps might be good enough, but sometimes Reddit will ban you based on your fingerprint, so you may want to protect yourself against that to be extra safe.

Sites can get a ton of information about your browser from JavaScript. Go to amiunique.org to see what they can collect from your browser. Disabling JavaScript doesn't work because it is needed to complete a CAPTCHA when creating an account. I would suggest using a browser that has built-in protection from fingerprinting like Brave or Firefox. If you use Brave, click on the shield to set the level of fingerprint protection you want for the site you are currently on. I would suggest putting it on strict for Reddit since it doesn't seem to break the site at all, but maybe standard is good enough too. In Firefox, enter "about:config" in the address bar, then type "resistFingerprinting," and set the setting to true. This setting affects all sites you visit, but you can tweak the permissions for a specific site by pressing Ctrl+I if the site is broken.
