Russia is once of the nations that has the potential for autarky (the others being the US, China, a CANZUK Union [possible], and a federalized EU) and the fact they've let that slip so bad is disgraceful.

Putin really fricked up by not diversifying the Russian economy enough. This whole war has made him out to be very incompetent. You'd think he'd have spies in western countries that might be able to get an idea of what backlash they might face. He said "Sanctions won't harm us", yet his $600 billion USD 'war chest' is useless, the Russian economy will face a great depression, massive social unrest. I don't know what he was thinking. He even got Germany to move towards renewables 15 years earlier, which is terrible for Russia's petrostate economy.
