Russia's going to achieve their overarching goal: Crimea recognized as Russian, recognizing of the independence of the breakaway states, and a new constitution that explicitly says Ukraine will not join blocs (the EU or NATO). Ukraine using civilians as shields has really slowed down the russian war effort, though I'll give you that russian logistics were shit.

Russia is fighting this war to prevent Ukraine from becoming part of NATO or the EU (and to get the, which Crimea recognition would do for off shore and the breakaway states would do for in land). To do so means removing the current zelensky regime. I'm sure there are other, less important aspects Putin wants, such as a relegalization of the Russian language in Ukraine and a dismantling of azov and co, but those aren't the big ones.
