I think part of the reason we get degen activist teachers is because teacher pay and working environment suck.
A person needs something to fill in the void that shit wages creates and a chance for these degens to get off fills that void.

Unironically the only way to have a functional workforce of people doing "knowledge work" (read: anything that requires a degree but isn't technical per se) is to have competitive salaries, promotion paths, and broad power of the org to fire people.
Unions are good for job roles where people are doing dangerous, strenuous jobs where they are generally replaceable parts, but for white collar professions and public employees Unions basically just hold everyone hostage and destroy the culture of an org

Libs have generally been way too soft on charters and what they teach because liberals love avoiding school culture wars which is where rightoids engage in swiftboat style attacks.
And before anyone screeches at me I am not against charters, I am against GOP style charters which have proven to be an absolute fricking disaster in states like Michigan.
