The issue, and what many seem to be missing is Russia does not have the forces in Ukraine to actually hold everything and also be on the offensive.
The manpower requirement to hold a city is massive. It's why the Russian strategy made no sense and it's obvious they thought they could win in a few days.
It really is hard to see how they can get any real political victory out of this.
