The laptop class is suing their bosses to pay for their home offices, including rent and electricity costs. San Francisco subreddit slapfights about whether this is r-slurred or not

I'm amazed how entitled people can be sometimes. I remember during one meeting that we were talking about work from home, a guy asked the question if the free coffee and snacks that we got in the office can be reimbursed since we are working from home.

You can snark all you want - it's effectively a pay cut for working from home. That's part of the compensation. Are you for employers giving pay cuts to people who work from home?

Edit: it’s hilarious how folks are pro pay cut and giving their employer free rent.

Companies can stop shoveling money into offices and start putting some of that money into supporting their employees.

It would be a pittance in comparison. They really need to abandon the sunk costs those buildings represent.

Good. WFH is a scam if my house is small I must be compensated to give up space for work

Does your employer not offer the option to go back into the office?

Oh I never left but I think this is the newest way jobs are screwing over workers. They’re saving money on this and need to compensate for it

I am using one room in my 3 bedroom townhouse as the home office. I am paying $4500 per month for mortgage + electric usage for monitors, laptops and work stations. The combined cost (electricity + the hidden cost of office taking space) is at least $1000 per month.

EDIT: I am not pro-RTO. I personally still enjoying WFH even it means that working setup takes my personal space. I just want people to be aware that companies also save money by letting people WFH. No office leases, no electricity and maintenance worker etc.

  • Get paid a bay area salary to work from home
  • Can live literally anywhere because you don't have to commute (meaning you get multiple extra hours a day where you aren't getting ready and traveling)
  • Don't have to pay for gas, buy lunch
  • Choose to live in a tiny apartment in the city instead of buying a small ranch in the countryside or a nice house a few hours away
  • Call it a pay cut when your "home office" (just a desk, monitor, and a filing cabinet) takes up 40% of your remaining space
  • Consider 50c worth of coffee a day "significant"

Just nuke the state jesus christ.

You’re forgetting about the food and snacks. Many of these companies provided free breakfast, lunch and dinner. Plus as many snacks as you could eat. The employee’s food bill has sky rocketed. Especially since they can’t cook and have to door dash every meal.

I make six figures and have unrestricted billable hours; it would be r-slurred of me to waste my time cooking unless I really wanted to.

The smart ones "transferred" to the Seattle office and moved out of state to dodge CA income tax + COL

By...removing our commute saving us time and money, allowing us to prep food at home saving time and money, by allowing people to live further from the office saving us time and money?

Good lord I hate redditors. There is no outcome or situation they won't twist into being oppression. I hate them so much.

These commute costs don’t even come close to the rental increase of a small additional room for work use, without which both my productivity and mental health degrade.

Sucks to suck, rentoid. Maybe be less of a fricking kitty.

Maybe they should overcome the stockholm syndrome they've developed for the egregiously expensive urban hellhole they inhabit and move the frick out.

Way more room for funko pops though. An SF salary could buy a rural property big enough to have multiple rooms dedicated to pop display and storage.

  • additional hour of exercise a day (commute is exercise for me) in sunshine
  • social interactions with a wider set of people
  • healthier eating patterns given planned/packed lunch

He has to go to work to be forced to exercise, talk to people, and eat meals at the right time. Maybe just, like, have some self-control?

Do these people think the second people worked from home for a few months the company just stopped paying the rent for the building? If they paid for everyone's rent it would cost them a lot more than an office building, but they're completely ignoring the fact their company still has a fricking office

They also don't understand that most corporate leases are at least 5-year duration, sometimes 10 years or more depending on the circumstances. They think everything like their annual residential leases because they're morons.

Whatever they're saving on office space/utilities they probably lose out on productivity. Work-from-homecels basically stop replying to emails after lunch at my company.

My company broke the lease and has stated there will not be an office going forward. They also don’t have to provide meals and snacks anymore. So, yeah, they’re saving a ton of money.

Remember when these same entitled whiners were constantly screeching about global warming? I guess that was just a fad to them and they aren't willing to make the slightest change to their lifestyle to cut back on emissions from commuting.

1000 dollar is peanuts . Your report is probably sitting on it 8 to 10 hours a day 5 days a week . It’s small price to pay to keep employee happy . It probably only comes down to few bucks an hour if you consider average tenure of around 2 years .

How many days in a year does this guy think there is?

The only one I could see being legitimate is the electricity cost, but seriously, how much are you spendin on energy for a laptop?
