The vehicles seen in that first image are probably IFV's, or Infantry Fighting Vehicles. Basically a light tank that can carry a squad of dudes in it. It's supposed to drop off the dudes then hang out nearby to shoot at stuff too big for the infantrymen IFV's typically have a 20-30mm autocannon and frequently also have a missile tube for firing Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM's)
Depends on the use case. An APC has to be strong enough against heavy machine gun fire. A Tank should withstand an full frontal SABOT charge and decent defense every else
Were these tanks, yeah? I get they've been destroyed by (probably) US anti-tank missiles, but just can't get over how it just looks like a biscuit tin.

OK I'm not a military nerd or a Walt or anything, but the wreckage of those armoured vehicles doesn't look very armoured at all.
Isn't there meant to be thicker steel and some sort of strengthened chassis inside?

Russian APCs and such are notoriously shitty, as long as itβs tough enough to not get holed up by a machine gun theyβll call it a day.
