Yeah it’s boring and unfocused. The subjects aren’t really that interesting.

Kantbot is in it way too much, but it’s funny what he has to say about it nowadays. Basically, the filmmaker just lied to these guys and edited it in a way to make them seem less like normal dorks and more like dangerous outsiders. She specifically lied to Kantbot because she said she wanted his commentary on the culture as a person who’s very plugged in, but in the movie, he’s lumped in as one of them, despite the fact that he literally had a girlfriend at the time of filming and the movie is called TFW No GF.

Like these guys weren’t really doing that bad. All these guys had a few friends, and by the end of the documentary, a couple of them even have girlfriends, but throughout the whole movie, they’re portrayed as these hopeless dangerous weirdos sucked into a hate culture online.

They’re just nerds. There’s way sadder cases on 4chan, but there’s no way that type of person would agree to be in a film, and there’s no way a filmmaker would ever enter that realm by choice.

documentary production is a journo adjacent job so dont be surprised that she filled in the need for research with sensationalism.

mass shooters like Elliot Rodger (a martyr of sorts for the community)

No one actually celebrates Elliot Rodger. People make fun of him in a self-deprecating way, considering him to be 'one of us' and also an absolute r-slur. Once again articles like this one completely miss the point.

This non-judgmental approach has made many viewers deeply uncomfortable, with writer Eric Langberg tweeting that the film is “one of the most irresponsible docs I’ve ever seen,”

God forbid someone releases something that just tries to educate without endlessly moralising.

Dude gender ontology is settled science; the soul is real and it has a gender which you can identify by reflecting on your irreducible gender qualia, bigot. It’s called basic common sense and human decency.
