People that think economic leftism is only communist or whatever are insane yes. So are the anarkiddies that say china isnt leftist just because they have capital or whatever. But SHit like social democracy or even social liberalism can be considered economically left, not neoliberalism.
Splitting liberalism into its more popular forms is a good way to distinguish the economic axis. Social liberalism represents the center left, Classical liberalism the center, neoliberalism the center right.
US dems are neolibs, Reps are a bit more neo lib but also more conservative

I dont think classic liberals are meaningfully to the left of neolibs, they both support minimal welfare and thats about it

They dont differ much and it can be argued that they mainly differ on the government libertarian-authoritarian scale, but classical liberalism is more "leave everything to its own devices" while neoliberalism aims to support the corporations, banks and institutions a bit (to prevent market crashes for example)
