There aren't many people in wheel chairs. We shouldn't waste money on ramps.

Finally someone gets it. Keep them cripples out of peoples' sight.

If only it was just ramps.

No, you're legally required to build and maintain elevators instead.

if you're a citycel there are tons of buildings disabled people cant access and never will be able to because of dumb "history"

My favorite thing about historical buildings is when one turns into a deathtrap and the owner isn't allowed to knock it down because of it's designation, and nobody will buy it from him because they can't knock it down, and the city still charges property taxes on the land.

My house is on the federal historic registry and what passes me off is the how the rules basically encourage that shit. They want me to keep all the original single pane windows but are there any tax breaks or subsidies for me hemorrhaging ac/heat, frick no. The historical society will only kick in funds on a project over $90k, so basically you have to let shit pile up and become completely fricked instead of keeping up on the more expensive maintenance. I've got a pair of 7ft limestone pillars that have like 30Β° lean but I can't knock them down and rebuild them, I literally have to let them collapse first.

But if you have a historical building and it's a business you can get all sorts of tax breaks and shit.

And if anyone breaks in and hurts themselves, the owner can be sued

I was asked to convert my stairs to a ramp by my HOA. They gave me heck to put gravel down so I just laughed at them and said it was too historic

Why would they want you to install a ramp to your own home when you don't need it? You don't need any crips rolling up on you in the middle of the night

People with actual disabilities should be accommodated with ramps, elevators, and other aids to help them live a normal life.

Obese people should be forced to climb ladders, navigate large barricades, and park at least 1 mile from their destination in order to exist in public, because they are gross to look at.

There aren't many people in wheelchairs.

The odd thing is though (bear with me) people in wheelchairs generally don't want to be in a wheelchair.

If you told people "I threw myself off a balcony so I could be in a wheelchair" they'd think you're crazy.

Although in 2022 who knows that might be celebrated as BRAVE and STUNNING

Not all activities are tailored for everyone.

For example, I consider people with wheelchairs are not really fun to hunt for sport.

I work in a manufacturing plant. It is objectively unsafe to have cripples walking out on the floor with all the heavy traffic and materials flowing everywhere. They added a cripple ramp for some reason beyond me. There are no elevators inside (except for the freight elevators which arent safe to ride on). Because a cripple would be physically incapable of doing the job. So frick if I know what they're going to do when they get inside and can't get to 2/3 of the bldg.

Yeah. Get the fatties start walking stairs, and our nation will shed a few pounds.

I agree though, it shouldn't be a legal requirement. If a business wants to cater to mecha-humans then they can but it doesn't seem like a legal necessity to me with how few people are in wheelchairs.

This, but unironically.
