The "Roman Salute" was probably not commonly used in Rome. There is some evidence that some Legions may have used it as a greeting but it was not uniformly practiced across the army and there is nothing to indicate usage among the general Roman citizenry.

Yes. So I just shrug, grip harder than emasculate them by beating them at arm wrestling.

More than 1 occasion a man grabs my hand even tho clearly offering 0 resistance & just CRUSHES it w all his strength while smiling at me. My visible squirming to get free, my cradling of my clearly injured hand after, my look of hurt & confusion, all clearly seen.

They try, but I always put my hand out in the daintiest, most limp wristed way possible so they have to choose between going along with my non-verbal cue or creating an awkward scene. They almost always choose the former.

I reserve my extra hard squeezes, and a little side-eye, for those situations.
